In our experience, regularly. Content management systems (Drupal / Wordpress) and their accompanying modules/plugins can at any time issue updates that should be performed as soon as possible, especially security updates. Postponing security updates will make your website vulnerable to hackers. Postponing updates for long periods of time (e.g. months) can make the subsequent updating process cumbersome and time-consuming.
Maintenance fees are payable in advance for a twelve month maintenance period. Remodeling the look and feel of a website designed by us, is invoiced separately and must be paid in full before the redesign commences. This situation will be applicable in those instances where you require a theme change, color palette changes, additional features, etc. Any additional work, author's corrections or ad hoc changes and updates will be charged at an hourly rate (dependent on task, to be verified at the start of a task) or will be quoted separately. We accept EFT payments only. Refer to Website Design Terms and Conditions point (4) in this regard.
The rule of thumb is that a minor alteration is a small change on an existing page or feature, e.g. changing a header, text font, adding a generic field to the content, etc. A major alteration usually means adding a new content page or feature. Mayor alteration are quoted separately at our normal hourly rate of R290.
Whenever we perform a minor alteration or software update we do a database backup. Once a month, we do a full database and file directory backup.
